  • Over 1.9 million votes by mail have been cast thus far according to the Florida Division of Elections. Democrats have outvoted Republicans by 402,000 votes thus far. Early voting begins Monday.
  • The US Army Corp of Engineers began discharging water from Lake Okeechobee yesterday as lake levels rose above 16 feet. The discharges are the first of the year and could last for up to three weeks depending upon conditions. The Army Corps said there isn’t evidence of toxic algae in Lake O’ currently and that it’s hasn’t been a problem in the lake generally this year.
  • The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission has announced the opening of Stone crab season today. The season will continue through May 1st. The season will be two weeks shorter this year in an effort to limit the impact on crab populations.
  • 13 of the top 25 cities for retirement, according to US News & World Report, are in Florida. This includes seven in the top ten including: #10 Melbourne, #9 Miami, #6 Ocala, #4 Naples, #3 Port St. Lucie, #2 Fort Myers and #1 Sarasota.
