Top Three Takeaways – December 11th
- Keep the faith. I’ve heard from a listener or perhaps a few hundred, as the case may be, in various states of despair with a common theme. They don’t trust the outcome of the presidential election and are suffering from a crisis of confidence in our country’s future. For those who are pleased with the presidential election outcome, understand there’s a difference between being in denial over election results as opposed to lacking confidence in our elections processes. This is where I’d point you back to the Harvard Election Integrity Project which showed the United States has the lowest election integrity of any country in the developed world, ranking 57th overall. It’s not a question as to if there are significant issues, it’s evident there are – just as we experienced in Broward and Palm Beach counties until this election cycle. Instead, the question is whether the issues with integrity resulted in an outcome which would have been different. That’s what the United States Supreme Court is tasked with considering as 24 states, including Florida, think the answer is potentially yes. Whatever happens from here, and most likely that is Joe Biden becoming the next President of the United States it’s important that all who are interested in honest and fair elections...
- Keep fighting. This includes those in despair. It wasn’t as though the American Revolution was a straight line of successive wins on the way to independence. There were dozens of setbacks which would have been the end of the American story if they quit. They overcame all setbacks and won. That’s what we we’re tasked with today. For most, that means understanding corrupt actors at the highest levels of our intelligence agencies, Justice Department and State Department didn’t become corrupt under just one administration. Thus, it was always unlikely the issues would all be resolved under one either. The failed elections systems and officials running them in the states in question didn’t all just suddenly engage in questionable conduct for the first time. It’s just the first time it’s come under this level of scrutiny. Fighting for meaningful change means playing the long game. For example, Broward’s and Palm Beach County’s election systems were shown to be broken in 2000. Despite changing elections officials and numerous cycles they persisted. It wasn’t until after the 2018 cycle that we were successful in ousting status quo officials along with failed election systems and processes. Where would Florida be today if we’d given up back then? Was it worth the fight and the setbacks? We can never give up on our country and disengaging is the equivalent.
- Be Grateful. That includes my being grateful to you. It’s never lost on me that I talk into a microphone for a living and if not for my sponsors and for you – I wouldn’t be able to do what I love to do. Perhaps most important to me, it’s what I feel I’m called to do. I’ve been blessed with a 23+ year career because of your support and this one has certainly challenging.
