Top Three Takeaways – June 10th, 2021

  1. Today’s an important day. It’s the day the Florida Board of Education decides whether teachers are free to teach racism in our schools. The rule change proposed by Education Commissioner Richard Corcoran which would effectively ban the teaching of critical race theory in Florida’s schools is front and center today. While the Florida Education Association and many of their allies in news media continue to assert that the ban shouldn’t happen and that it’s not being taught anyway... A reality check shows a different story. The FEA is a division of the American Federation of Teachers, the national union successful in implementing critical race theory in California and numerous cities across the country. They think you’re stupid and they count on you being uninformed. Already we’ve had the Duval and Palm Beach County School Districts attempt to add its tenants to their mission statements, and with the Pulitzer Center having distributed the books to Florida’s school libraries already...all of the pieces are there for the teachers, 78% of which are members of the Florida Education Association and school districts that want to teach CRT, aka racism, to make it happen. Hopefully racism loses in Florida today. Sadly, we have to overcome the education establishment to do it. And it’s because of them that this is necessary.
  2. Val’s In. It’s official. What? You’re not super exited? No, you’re right. It appears only the news media is. Now, I hate to be that pesky “facts” person again, but there’s one annoyance that’s liable only to get worse for the foreseeable if it’s not stopped in its tracks. Val Demmings is not currently running against Marco Rubio. That’s because she must win a primary election, of which she’s currently one of seven candidates, for the opportunity to do so. Front-runner to run against Rubio, perhaps. Running against Rubio? No. Incidentally, this is an obvious teachable moment. When news media so blatantly misreports/mischaracterizes a US Senate race, imagine the accuracy of most of the reporting...
  3. Wow. All I can say when it comes to Florida’s economy is wow! In an index created by CNN and Moody’s Analytics, called the “Back-to-Normal" Index, something remarkable has already happened as we recover from the pandemic. In Florida, we’ve already more than recovered from the pandemic. In the index which measures every state’s economy, two states now have economies that are even stronger than they were prior to the pandemic. South Dakota, whose economy is 6% stronger than prior to the pandemic and of course Florida. Our economy is 1% stronger than prior to the pandemic. Incidentally, South Dakota was the fourth least restricted state in the country during the pandemic and Florida was 2nd. And which economy is worst relative to prior to the pandemic? You guessed it, New York. Their economy is only at 79% of what it was prior to the pandemic. Any questions? Great leadership, great public policy and a great economy. Thank you, Governor DeSantis. As he said Sunday night. Florida chose freedom over Faucism. And it shows. New York chose Cuomo. And it shows.
