- A proposed constitutional amendment enabling sports betting has been filed for potential inclusion on 2022 ballots. The proposal, which is financially backed by DraftKings and FanDuel, is a strong indication key players believe the recently ratified deal with the Seminole Tribe won’t survive a legal challenge brought by No Casinos evoking 2018’s Amendment 3. Under 2018’s Amendment 3, Floridians have to directly vote in favor of gambling changes in Florida.
- A report from the Florida Department of Law Enforcement shows 6,648 law enforcement officers, or over 18 per day, were victims of assault in the most recent annual data available. 23.6% of the assaults occurred when law enforcement responded to emergencies.
- Celebrity Cruises has dropped mandating proof of vaccinations for all cruises out of Florida, though, like Royal Caribbean, unvaccinated passengers will be treated differently. According to their stated policy: For Sailings from Florida: Guests over 16 years old (over 12 for any sailing on or after August 1st) who decline or are unable to show proof of vaccination at boarding will be treated as unvaccinated and subject to additional protocols, restrictions, and costs for COVID-19 testing.
- AAA’s estimates for Independence Day travel shows expected travel up 36% in Florida over last year and close to 2019’s record levels. Florida is the top destination for those traveling out of state with Orlando being the top destination in the country.
