- Governor DeSantis called out those demonstrating for Cuban freedom by blocking traffic on Thursday saying - We can’t have that. It’s dangerous for you to be shutting down a thoroughfare. You’re also putting other people in jeopardy. You don’t know if an emergency vehicle needs to get somewhere, and then, obviously, it’s just disrespectful to make people stand in traffic. However, against the backdrop of some attempting to conflate these demonstrations, which have been peaceful with what proved to be violent riots resulting in the looting and defacing of dozens of businesses throughout the state by BLM rioters last summer, he said... They’re not violent. Those aren’t riots. They’re out there being peaceful, and they’re making their voice heard, and we support them and their ability to do that.
- Citizen’s Property Insurance, the state’s insurer of last resort, continues to experience an influx of new policies as carriers drop policies across the state based on Florida’s high-risk factors. Yesterday the CEO stated they’re anticipating an influx of condo community policies in the wake of the Champlain Tower collapse in Surfside. Citizens had 463,247 policies entering 2021, however they’re projecting 766,000 enforce policies by year end – the highest since the Great Recession. Related...
- On Thursday a roof collapsed at the Royalton on the Green Apartments in Hialeah. No one was injured and the cause of the collapse isn’t yet known.
- Disney is moving 2,000 operations positions from California to Orlando. As part of the massive relocation plan in Lake Nona, a new regional campus will be built with capacity to scale up – leaving open the possibility of Disney eventually moving all non-Disney Land operations out of California.
