Top Three Takeaways – August 5th, 2021

  1. The CDC has become an enemy of liberty. There are a lot of concerning issues in the country right now. Based on your political preferences those issues are likely to vary but with only an average of 39% of Americans feeling as though the country is heading in the right direction right now, it’s clear that most agree. We’ve got issues. But there’s one issue that transcends all others. Freedom. And our Constitution which protects it. That’s why the unelected body of scientists in Atlanta are public enemy number one. No other institution has, or continues to, abuse the rights of Americans and violate the Constitution as pervasively as the CDC. Whether it’s the cruise industry, the border, or evictions the Centers for Disease Control has blatantly and abusively issued unconstitutional edicts. Their renewed moratorium on evictions, after the United States Supreme Court had already ruled their actions unconstitutional, is nothing short of property theft as landlords are left helpless to gain access to their property. Their abuse of powers isn’t just within the civil realm any longer. I’d argue it’s now criminal. The intent is clear. The definition of criminal intent is this: The intent to commit a crime: malice, as evidenced by a criminal act; an intent to deprive or defraud the true owner of his property. Is that not exactly what the CDC is doing? In fact, even President Biden admitted as much when he stated this, I've sought out constitutional scholars to determine what is the best possibility that would come from executive action of the CDC's judgment. What could they do that was most likely to pass muster, constitutionally? The bulk of the constitutional scholarship says that it's not likely to pass constitutional muster, number one. Right, so it doesn’t pass constitutional muster but it’s worth the effort. Isn’t that what dictators say and do? If you believe in the Constitution and the freedoms it provides, the CDC is the enemy and President Biden is its enabler.
  2. Consider the source. If you've read or heard something about Governor DeSantis’s poll numbers over the past day or so you absolutely should consider the source. While several giddy news outlets were excited to report that Governor DeSantis’s poll numbers had fallen, and Charlie Crist is leading DeSantis as the peak of the pandemic is playing out in Florida right now...here’s the rest of the story. First, the pollster, St. Pete polls, has a terrible track record. How bad? They had Gillum beating DeSantis by 5-points in 2018. That’s one. But here’s the more instructive point. DeSantis actually performs better in their most recent poll than he did in the previous one. While all other pollsters across the state have consistently shown DeSantis with solid approval and big leads over Crist and Fried, one hasn’t. This one. This is just their latest poll. And in fact, DeSantis performs two points better in it this week than the previous polling update. That’s why you should consider the source.
  3. School board showdowns. On Monday, after Broward and Gadsden’s school districts rescinded their mask mandates after Governor DeSantis’s executive order, it appeared as though a showdown on school mask mandates may be averted. As it turns out that’s not the case. On Tuesday night defiant school boards in Alachua and Duval voted in mask mandates for the upcoming school year. On back of the defiance, other emboldened school boards including Broward who voted for a mask mandate before rescinding it due to the Governor’s executive order are now reconsidering the mask mandate in violation of the order. But here’s the thing. And it will be the thing. You, as a parent, will have the choice. According to DeSantis press secretary Christina Pushaw the Florida Department of Health and the Florida Department of Education do and will determine what’s permissible and what isn’t regarding one’s health. Quoting her: (The state is) finalizing health and education emergency rules that do not prohibit masks in schools but will require parents to have the right to opt their children out. Even if a school board passes a ‘mask mandate,’ they will not be able to enforce it, because the choice will be up to parents whether their children wear masks or not. So, the school boards might want showdowns, but they aren’t coming. Parents will retain the choice which serves as a good reminder of who the school boards and the teachers actually work for.
