- Today is the day the Miami-Dade School District has decided to comply with the law and accept parental opt-outs to the district’s mask mandate policy. The final holdout is the Broward School District which has delayed compliance until the 20th.
- Princeton’s Gerrymandering Project, which reviews proposed redistricting maps across the country, has graded Florida’s Senate proposed maps with a B. That’s the highest grade in the country this year – meaning Florida’s proposed maps are the fairest in the country. The state legislature will vote on what will be Florida’s new map in the state legislative session which convenes in January.
- Demand for child vaccinations in Florida is extremely light. Monday marked the first day that children between the ages of 5-11 were eligible for a COVID-19 vaccine. There are 1.7 million children between 5-11 in Florida. The state’s initial vaccine order was for 90,000 doses and there are no reports of shortages statewide. The state has placed a new order for 270,000 additional child doses.
- A key legal challenge to Florida’s newly ratified Seminole Compact which authorized sports betting is about to be decided. A federal judge who is determiningwhetherthe recently ratified compact violates federal law by having the Seminole Tribe facilitate online sports betting has promised an initial decision no later than Monday.
