The Palm Beach County School Board has voted to make masks optional at future meetings, as long as attendees maintain six feet of distance between each other.

Superintendent Michael Burke also announced that beginning on Friday, parents and other visitors on school campuses or school district offices will no longer be required to wear facial coverings.

Masks were made optional for students and employees earlier this month, with students needing to bring an opt-out note from parents.

The School Board on Wednesday night also approved the academic calendar for the 2022-23 school year. It will start on August 10 and wrap up on May 26.

Kids will get a weeklong Thanksgiving break and eight days off for Christmastime, what the district calls "winter break," December 22 through January 3. Spring Break will run March 20-24.
