Palm Beach County’s Updated Voter Registration Changes – April 2023
Bottom Line: Last year’s record setting election cycle for Republicans in Florida has changed the entire political perception of it. No longer the ultimate swing state, we’re now viewed as a red state. Last week I brought you the state’s latest voter registration information reflecting changes in voter rolls through March. The surge in Republican momentum in Florida continued through the first quarter of this year as did the issues for Florida’s Democrats which experienced significant declines in registered voters. In fact, Florida’s latest voter registration information indicates an acceleration of Democrat defections early this year. But what about what’s happening closest to home?
The record performance in November’s elections for Republicans wouldn’t have been possible if not for the flipping of two of Florida’s three largest counties- Miami-Dade and Palm Beach. But while Palm Beach County broke for the entire Republican cabinet for the first-time ever, Democrats still held a large voter registration advantage over Republicans on Election Day. So, a key question remains...is Palm Beach County’s post-Election Day trend consistent with the state? Is the political shift towards the right sustaining?
At the peak of the Democrat voter registration advantage in Palm Beach County, Democrats held an advantage of 138,400 voters. Where do we stand today? Democrats now hold an advantage of 96,014 registered voters in PBC. Republicans have eaten into the Democrats’ advantage by a net 637 voters month-over-month, and 5,534 year-to-date - indicating the county is continuing to mirror the state’s overall trend. There’s another notable takeaway here. This year marks the first time Democrats have held a voter registration advantage that’s lower than 100,000 voters in Palm Beach County since George W. Bush was president.
