- The Palm Beach County School Board approved the expulsion of nine students responsible for bringing weapons to schools during the just concluded school year. That brought the total number of students expelled for weapons to 42 during the 2022-2023 school year – the highest on record and more than twice as many as the previous year. The developments come as the school district is set to move forward with the implementation of metal detectors in schools. A test program for the detectors could begin as soon as this summer.
- Following passionate testimony from residents and members of Wellington’s Equestrian community, the Equestrian Preserve Committee voted unanimously against a rezoning proposal that would allow for the conversion of a 600-acre site into housing/mixed use facilities backed by Justin Timberlake and Tiger Woods. The Committee serves in an advisory capacity and will recommend against the project. The final decision lies with Wellington’s Planning Zoning and Adjustment Board.
- The 27th Annual Highway Report shows Florida’s highway system ranks as the 8th best in the country this year – including having the top ranked highway system of any large state in the country (California is 47th and New York is 49th). Florida also ranks in the top four for Urban pavement conditions, 2nd for Rural pavement conditions and first nationally for Rural Interstate Pavement Condition.
- Gas prices dropped another penny Wednesday. Statewide the average price for regular unleaded is $3.33 per gallon – seven cents lower than a week ago. In Palm Beach County the average price is $3.54 per gallon, which is the third highest in the state.
