- Governor DeSantis signed six bills into law on Wednesday including the Rapid DNA Grant Program legislation which reimburses local law enforcement agencies for the immediate processing of DNA samples for the purpose of solving crimes. The Public Records bill is now law which provides public records exemptions for genetic genealogy information & materials. The Unlawful Dumping bill is now law which cracks down on illegal dumping in Florida’s waterways including when litter is thrown or discarded from boats. Also, the Real Property Fraud legislation is now law which establishes a Title Fraud Prevention Through Identity Verification program whereby property transfers require government issued ID before deed and property records are released.
- A new MoneyGeek Study of Which Cities Have the Best and Worst Commutes found seven of the twenty worst commutes are in Florida. Lakeland-Winter Haven was 3rd worst, Port St. Lucie was 6th worst, Deltona 7th, Cape Coral 9th, Orlando 13th, Miami 14th, Tampa 15th.
- Fortune’s annual 50 best Places to Live for Families study cited Wellington as the eighth best place to live and raise a family nationally. The study considered over 1,800 cities across the country based on education, aging resources, wellness, financial health and livability.
- Gas prices were lower by a penny on Wednesday. Statewide the average price for regular unleaded is $3.45 per gallon – 13 cents higher than a week ago. In Palm Beach County the average price is $3.61 per gallon, which is the second highest in the state.
