- The Florida Department of Education announced 11,000 teachers statewide have completed Florida’s newly launched Civics Seal of Excellence program and is awarding them with a $3,000 bonus. The program, which was launched in January, provides educators with civics education aimed at helping them teach Florida’s civics curriculum. The program is currently maxed out with 20,000 educators participating in summer courses right now with an additional 11,000 on a waiting list.
- As part of Florida’s new immigration law, the state announced out-of-state licenses which aren’t recognized as legitimate in the state. The classification of licenses issued to undocumented persons in Connecticut, Delaware, Hawaii, Rhode Island and Vermont will not be recognized as legitimate forms of ID.
- There is a main break in Boynton Beach which is currently dumping sewage into the Intracoastal Waterway. A main break occurred on East Boynton Beach Boulevard which led to sewage seeping into a stormwater outflow drain to the Intracoastal. Damage assessment and repairs are underway.
- The median home price for the Miami-Fort Lauderdale-West Palm Beach metro has risen to $610,000 according to the Florida Realtors Association – the second highest in the state to the $810,000 median price in the Naples-Immokalee-Marco Island metro.
- Gas prices rose considerably on Wednesday. Statewide the average price for regular unleaded is $3.34 per gallon – 8 cents higher than yesterday and three cents higher than a week ago. In Palm Beach County the average price is $3.43 per gallon, which is the 6th highest in the state.
