- The Farmworkers Association of Florida has sued the DeSantis administration and the state of Florida, seeking to overturn the recently enacted immigration law, which mandates employers with 25 or more employees use E-Verify to ensure the legal status of prospecutive employees. The Association states in their suit that immigration related issues exceed state authority and that the law is too vague. Despite protests and claims that the new law would cripple businesses and whole industries within the state – there have been no notable issues since its implementation July 1st.
- The first notable Democrat has launched a campaign for US Senate. Veteran Phil Ehr, a former Republican who has twice failed in congressional bids against Representative Matt Gaetz, has launched a Senate campaign as he seeks to unseat Rick Scott in next year’s election cycle. His campaign has immediately targeted Scott – referring to him as a “coward”.
- Bankrupt Bed, Bath and Beyond has announced that its stores – which include Buy, Buy Baby brands as well, will close by July 30th. In Palm Beach County the three remaining locations which will close are the stores on PGA Blvd., Palm Beach Lakes Blvd. and on Glades Road.
- Gas prices dropped a penny on Monday. Statewide the average price for regular unleaded is currently $3.39 per gallon – 7 cents lower than a week ago. In Palm Beach County the average price is $3.56 per gallon, which is the highest price in the state.
