- South Carolina Senator and Republican Presidential Candidate Tim Scott has joined Southwest Florida Congressman Byron Donalds’ criticism of Florida’s recently approved African American History curriculum. Scott said, “there’s no silver lining to slavery”. In response to Donalds, DeSantis suggested he “not stand with Kamala Harris”. The vice president was recently critical of the new curriculum in Jacksonville. Florida Education Commissioner Manny Diaz Jr. attended a Democrat Senators town hall on the curriculum last night in Miami Gardens. The new curriculum includes a line which states slaves obtained skills which were beneficial in other aspects of life.
- Palm Beach Central High School has an interim principal in place following the removal of the former principal and several staffers following the failure to report sexual abuse on campus. The interim principal is Reggie Myers who’d previously served as Park Vista High School’s principal prior to retiring in 2021.
- A new hurricane vulnerability study, which measures the risk of a hurricane strike, with damage vulnerability and the potential cost of damage, ranks Broward as the most at-risk county in the country with Palm Beach #2. Miami Dade is fifth. Broward nor Palm Beach County have suffered a direct landfall of a hurricane since the 2005 hurricane season.
- Gas prices rose for a fourth straight day Thursday. Statewide the average price for regular unleaded is currently $3.67 per gallon – 19 cents higher than a week ago. In Palm Beach County the average price is $3.80 per gallon, which is the highest price in the state.
