- Tropical Storm Franklin has moved north of Hispaniola following yesterday’s landfall. It’s expected to develop into a hurricane as it makes its way north in the vicinity of Bermuda. The two other disturbances in the Atlantic don’t currently pose a threat to any populated areas. A new disturbance which has developed in the Pacific is expected to cross over into the Caribbean Sea in coming days, entering the Gulf of Mexico and potentially posing a threat to the Panhandle.
- In yet another sign of a recovering property insurance market in Florida, the state’s Office of Insurance Regulation has approved Orion180 Select Insurance Company to begin underwriting property insurance policies in Florida. Orion180 is the third new property insurance company to enter Florida’s market in recent months on the back of the reforms passed by the legislature aimed at curbing litigation abuse and fraud within the state.
- The Florida Board of Education approved new rules Wednesday crafted to comply with Florida’s new “bathrooms” law which mandates public restrooms be used according to one’s biological sex. The rule state that staff and faculty at Florida’s colleges are subject to punishment up to and including termination if they use restrooms that aren’t consistent with state law.
- Gas prices dropped another two cents on Wednesday. Statewide the average price for regular unleaded is currently $3.75 per gallon – 8 cents lower than a week ago. In Palm Beach County the average price is $3.91 per gallon, which is the second highest price in the state.
