  • The tropics remain active with three disturbances led by Hurricane Lee – which is expected to continue to strengthen into a major hurricane passing north of the Leeward Islands and Puerto Rico. The hurricane will likely take a northern turn prior to reaching the Bahamas. No other systems currently pose a threat to populated areas.
  • Attorney General Ashley Moody joined John Walsh, Crime Stoppers and Palm Beach County Sheriff Ric Bradshaw in West Palm Beach to announce a new partnership between the agencies. The effort is to encourage anonymous tips to be reported for the purpose of solving outstanding criminal cases. Moody said often those who commit crimes will remain within the state, however they relocate between jurisdictions. The new partnership will promote the state’s **TIPS line for anonymous tips reporting which often can include rewards for tips leading to an arrest.
  • Big Dog Ranch Rescue has been cited by Palm Beach County Animal Care and Control for the illegal purchasing of 250 dogs at auction in Missouri. According to Big Dog Ranch they were recusing the dogs from poor conditions and claim that they didn’t pay full price for the dogs. County ordinances ban non-profits from the practice of purchasing dogs for the purpose of local distribution. PBC Animal Care and Control Assistant Director Dave Walesky told CBS 12: If you're putting money into their bank account you're not solving a problem you're enabling a problem, there are plenty of dogs out there you don’t need to go running around buying them. The Loxahatchee based non-profit said they were unaware their actions were illegal and that intake from puppy mills accounts for only 2% of the animals at their rescue.
  • Gas prices were two cents lower Wednesday. Statewide the average price for regular unleaded is $3.65 per gallon – 5 cents lower than a week ago. In Palm Beach County the average price is $3.84 per gallon, which is the highest price in the state.
