- The tropics remain active with four disturbances led Hurricane Lee and Tropical Storm Margot which is expected to strengthen into a hurricane. Currently only Hurricane Lee poses a potential threat to populated areas as it’s expected to pass to the west of Bermuda with the potential to impact coastal areas in the northeast this weekend.
- The Florida Board of Governors has voted to accept the CLT, or Classic Learning Test, as a standardized testing alternative to the ACT and SAT. The approval of the CLT means all 12 state universities will accept the results of the CLT for admission consideration starting with the fall semester. The vote was 13 to 1 by the state board.
- Off Lease Only, which is in the process of liquidating through bankruptcy, has filed paperwork with the bankruptcy court asking that all deposits made by customers who were in the process of purchasing vehicles at the time of their bankruptcy filing be refunded the money. Off Lease had approximately 500 vehicles in the process of being sold at the time of the surprise announcement of their liquidation. A total of 545 employees have lost their jobs – 466 of those jobs were in Florida. Laid off employees will receive two paychecks and any unpaid commissions.
- Gas prices were lower through the weekend. Statewide the average price for regular unleaded is $3.60 per gallon – 8 cents lower than a week ago. In Palm Beach County the average price is $3.79 per gallon, which is the sixth highest price in the state (the best relative pricing of the year for our area).
