- There are two disturbances in the Atlantic. Tropical Storm Philippe is expected to cross over Bermuda on its way towards the northeast for a potential landfall in Maine or Nova Scotia. There’s also a disturbance off the coast of Africa which is being given a 30% chance of development over the next week according to the National Hurricane Center.
- The Palm Beach County School Board approved the largest pay increase in the District’s history on Wednesday. The 7.5% increase demanded by the Classroom Teachers Association was approved in addition to a one-time 3% bonus to instructional employees within the district. The raises are being made retroactive to July 1st and will cost taxpayers an additional $95.2 million. The average pay increase in Palm Beach County for all employees has been 5.8% over the past year. Speaking of education...
- The Palm Beach County School District will bring metal detectors to all Palm Beach County high schools. Following a successful test period for metal detectors at four area high schools, Superintendent Michael Burke stated the District will acquire and install metal detectors by the end of the year for high schools which don’t already have them in use.
- Gas prices have been steady over the past day. Statewide the average price for regular unleaded is $3.52 per gallon two cents higher than a week ago. In Palm Beach County the average price is $3.70 per gallon, which is the 6th highest price in the state.
