- Two disturbances are active in the tropics. A tropical disturbance off the coast of Africa is being given an 80% chance of development over the next week though it appears unlikely to impact any populated areas. A second disturbance in the Gulf has been given a 20% chance of development over the next week as it drifts north towards Texas and Louisiana.
- The Broward County Aviation Department broke ground on an expansion of Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport on Monday. Construction of a fifth terminal at the airport, with will be known as T5, will add five gates to the airport which currently operates 66. The project will take an estimated 3 years to complete and will be able to accommodate 4 to 5 million travelers annually.
- Florida will once again be providing COVID-19 case data weekly from the Florida Department of Health as opposed to bi-weekly. The bi-weekly reporting began in 2021, however a lawsuit by former Democrat state Representative Carlos Guillermo Smith sought more frequent reporting. The state has settled the claims by agreeing to weekly data updates.
- Gas prices are two cents lower today. Statewide the average price for regular unleaded is $3.44 per gallon – 6 cents lower than a week ago. In Palm Beach County the average price is $3.65 per gallon, which is the 5th highest price in the state. Oil futures are higher following the Iranian-sponsored terror attack by Hamas on Israel which may lead to slightly higher prices over the next week.
