- Hurricane Tammy continues to slowly move north towards Bermuda after last weekend’s landfall in the Lesser Antilles. It’s expected to eventually weaken into a tropical storm as it takes a turn towards Bermuda this weekend.
- Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody has filed a lawsuit against Meta, the parent of Facebook and Instagram, for intentionally designing and deploying features on their social media platforms that are addictive. The suit alleges that Meta stated the services are safe for users while having research in hand which evidenced that they’re not.
- Details of the organized crime ring busted in South Florida as part of the state’s “Operation On the Fence” are coming into focus. Thieves regularly targeted 20 different retailers across the region including: Ace Hardware, Home Depot, Lowes, Publix, Target, Walmart and other stores. Stolen items were commonly sold on Amazon and the total estimated value of the stolen items was $20 million at the time of the bust that led to the arrest of 14 suspects.
- The Palm Beach County Commission has rejected the so called “Big Deal” proposal from GL Homes which would have led to the construction of a new 1,000 home development in the AG Reserve in Western Boca Raton. The Reserve is home to designated green space and limited farming activities. The GL proposal called for swapping what the company said was a comparable piece of land outside of the reserve in exchange for the ability to develop inside of it.
- Gas prices jumped another 3 cents per gallon over the past day. Statewide the average price for regular unleaded is $3.32 per gallon – 3 cents higher than a week ago. In Palm Beach County the average price is $3.51 per gallon, which is the 6th highest price in the state.
