- Craps, roulette and onsite sports betting is coming to Florida. The Seminole Tribe has announced that effective December 7th for its three South Florida Casinos, and December 8th through the 11th for its other casinos within Florida, that it will expand gaming activities authorized under the 2021 Seminole Compact agreed to by the State of Florida and the Seminole Tribe. The decision is on the back of the United States Supreme Court lifting a stay on the Seminole Compact last Thursday while still considering whether it will hear the case challenging the legitimacy of the Compact. Notably, the Tribe has decided not to restart online sports betting which it briefly offered through an app in November of 2021, prior to a federal court ruling which ordered that the service be shut down.
- A Federal court has dismissed a lawsuit led by the ACLU with support from the Biden Administration seeking to overturn Florida’s election integrity law pertaining to signature verification. U.S. District Judge Allen Winsor stated the ACLU failed to show why the requirement was “immaterial” for voter registration. Additionally, his ruling implied a preference for original physical signatures being used for verification as opposed to electronic signatures which have become increasingly popular. Judge Winsor said a physical signature carries a “solemn weight”.
- A lone disturbance is in the Caribbean Sea and has a 30% chance of developing into a tropical cyclone as it drifts towards Central America.
- Gas prices fell by another two cents today. Statewide the average price for regular unleaded is $3.23 per gallon – 9 cents lower than a week ago. In Palm Beach County the average price is $3.44 per gallon. In Indian River County the average price is $3.25 per gallon.
