  • Florida’s special session is coming to a close today with the legislature passing all five legislative priorities identified entering the session. That includes passing the following bills: Disaster relief which allocates an additional $417 million in Hurricane Idalia assistance for those impacted by the hurricane in addition to funding for the My Safe Florida grant program for homeowners to upgrade their homes. The Family empowerment scholarship bill which raises the annual number of eligible Florida students for the scholarship from 26,500 to 40,913 students. The scrutinized companies bill which disallows investments in the Florida Retirement fund from including companies with ties to Iran and related backers of terrorism. The Security Grants bill which opens Jewish non-profit schools and museums in the state to $45 million in grants which can be used to enhance security. The Support for Israel and Condemning Hamas proclamation also passed following a divisive debate among Democrats in the House. Three House Democrats voted against the bill. All bills are on their way to Governor DeSantis for him to sign which is expected.  
  • Harborside Place has issued a response to the Jupiter Town Council’s demand for answers pertaining to the recent electrocution of five people with one proving fatal. According to Harborside no final determination of the cause of the incident has been made. They cite that the investigation is ongoing. Harbourside stated that the fountain will remain without water and power indefinitely. The Town of Jupiter is expecting next steps to be submitted by Monday. Current options being discussed include repairs which would overhaul the fountain’s operations or demolition.  
  • The tropics are clear with no activity expected over the next week.  
  • Gas prices are flat today. Statewide the average price for regular unleaded remain $3.24 per gallon – a penny higher than a week ago. In Palm Beach County the average price is $3.41 per gallon and in Indian River County the average is $3.25 per gallon.
