- Two disturbances are now active in the tropics. A disturbance in the Caribbean Sea currently has a 50% chance of developing into a tropical depression by the end of the week. The system is expected to drift northeast towards Cuba and Hispaniola. A second disturbance has formed off of the east coast of Florida and is expected to drift slowly towards the northeast and away from us. It only has a 10% chance of developing, however the disturbance will continue to bring wind and regular rainfall through Thursday to Florida’s east coast.
- The Village of Wellington took up the Wellington Lifestyle Partners proposal to rezone land in the Equestrian Preserve for residential development. A vote wasn’t taken up as planned to accommodate public comments. Residents who wanted to comment filled the town’s chamber and an overflow room. Meetings have been scheduled today and tomorrow to allow an opportunity for all residents to share their thoughts about the proposal.
- A year after the impact of Hurricane Nicole, Vero Beach officials are still waiting for FEMA to follow through with funds to finish repairs in the city. Outstanding projects include the Humiston Beach boardwalk, beach renourishment and the installation of a seawall. In an interview with WPTV, city officials say they’ve turned multiple proposals over to FEMA for their approval but have yet to receive funds for the projects. They’re hoping for action to be taken early next year.
- Gas prices have hit a new low for the year dropping two cents a gallon over the past day. Statewide the average price for regular unleaded is $3.13 per gallon – 11 cents lower than a week ago. In Palm Beach County the average price is $3.33 per gallon and in Indian River County the average is $3.14 per gallon.
