- Florida officials, including Governor DeSantis expressed outrage at FSU’s snub from the college football playoffs. The undefeated ACC Champion Seminoles were dropped from #4 in the final college football playoff rankings, in lieu of one-loss SEC Champion Alabama. It’s believed that the recent loss of star quarterback Jordan Travis, a West Palm Beach native, factored into the decision making. Travis posted on X: Devastated. Heartbroken, in so much disbelief, I wish my leg broke earlier in the season so y’all could see this team is much more than the quarterback. Governor DeSantis said: What we learned today is that you can go undefeated and win your conference championship game, but the College Football Playoff committee will ignore these results. Senator Rick Scott took it a step further saying: Like millions of college football fans, I was infuriated by the illogical decision to rob @FSUFootball of the chance to play in the @CFBPlayoff. I’ll be demanding the committee answer as to how this decision was made and what led to this outcome. Florida State will play Georgia in the Orange Bowl.
- Other Florida bowl matchups include the Pinstripe Bowl with Miami playing Rutgers, the Gasparilla Bowl with UCF playing Georgia Tech, the Boca Raton Bowl with USF playing Syracuse, the New Orleans Bowl with Jacksonville State vs. Louisiana-Lafayette and the Celebration Bowl with Florida A&M taking on Howard.
- Consumer sentiment in Florida remains stronger than the national trends. The monthly consumer sentiment figure, which gauges our confidence in the economy rose nearly two points to 68 in November, compared to a national average of 61 which was two points lower than the previous month. Florida’s economy has been the 7th strongest in the country this year and the best performing of any large state in the country.
- Temperatures will remain above the seasonal norms today prior to a cold front making its way into our area tomorrow which will bring cooler than usual temperatures Wednesday and Thursday.
- Gas prices fell a couple of cents per gallon over the weekend. The average price statewide for regular unleaded is $3.14 per gallon - 13 cents higher than a week ago. In Palm Beach County the average price is $3.32 per gallon, in Martin the average is $3.21 and in Indian River County the average is $3.15 per gallon.
