- Florida’s State Legislative Session got underway Tuesday following Governor DeSantis’ sixth state-of-the-state address. The 60-day session runs through March 8th.
- The Martin County School Board abruptly decided not to pursue a state authorized test program for year-round school within the District. The School Board’s decision came following the responses of over 400 members of the community which expressed their concerns. The state has authorized five school districts to test year-round school. Charlotte County is currently the only school district participating in the test program.
- Following a down year for attendance at Disney’s theme parks amid political fallout regarding DEI related initiatives at the company, and their high-profile battle with the State of Florida over those initiatives and control of the former Ready Creek Improvement District...Walt Disney World has announced new ticket pricing for Florida residents effective January 11th. The Florida Resident Disney Thrills Ticket, a 2-day park pass is being offered for $199 – with 3-day passes at $219. The deal is being offered through March 15th. Park Hopper passes are also being offered for an ad on price of between $35 to $55 per ticket.
- The weather will be cooler and calmer today following severe storms which produced tornadic activity across the state on Tuesday. Governor DeSantis declared a state of emergency in 49 of the 67 counties in the state. Temperatures will be a couple of degrees below the seasonal norms today with highs peaking in the upper 60’s to low 70’s.
- Gas prices dropped a penny over the past day. The average price statewide for regular unleaded is $3.14 per gallon - 9 cents higher than a week ago. In Palm Beach County the average price is $3.30 per gallon, in Martin the average is $3.22 and in Indian River County the average is $3.13 per gallon.
