  • Movers in Thursday’s legislative session included the Millage Rates bill. The bill which would require a two-thirds vote by local officials to raise mileage rates passed its second senate committee on a party-line vote. The Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services bill advanced which would ban synthetically produced meat products. The bill passed it second senate committee on a party-line vote. The Food Delivery Platforms bill passed its second senate committee hearing unanimously. The bill would create statewide regulations for food delivery services which are currently loosely regulated by local governments. The Chiropractice Medicine bill advanced through its first committee stop with only one dissenting vote. The bill would expand the range of medical services chiropractors would be able to perform.  
  • The U.S. Geological Survey confirmed on Thursday that a highly unusual 4.0 magnitude earthquake took place Wednesday night approximately 100 miles offshore from Cape Canaveral. No damage was reported, though the effects were monitored for hundreds of miles along Florida’s east coast.  
  • Warmer weather again today with highs in the mid to upper 70’s, about 2 degrees warmer than usual for this time of year. A warming trend is expected to continue through Monday.  
  • Gas prices dropped for a third straight day on Thursday. The average price statewide for regular unleaded is now $3.15 per gallon - 11 cents lower than a week ago. In Palm Beach County the average price is $3.36 per gallon, in Martin the average is $3.26 and in Indian River County the average is $3.15 per gallon.
