- Recent movers in the state legislative session included the Houses’ Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services bill which would ban synthetic, or lab grown meats. The bill was recommended by an appropriations subcommittee with a change in language allowing for lab research and testing to still take place within the state.
- The Florida Council on Compulsive Gambling, a non-profit which operates the 24/7 888-admit it hotline, reports their volume of calls as having more than doubled since the onset of sports betting with the Seminole Sports betting app late last year. The Super Bowl typically represents the peak of the sports betting year.
- 33 illegal migrants from Haiti intercepted recently at the Fort Pierce Inlet were repatriated to Haiti by the United States Coast Guard yesterday.
- After flirting with record highs yesterday, we’ll have slightly cooler weather throughout the day. Highs will be in the upper 70’s, which will still be about 5 degrees warmer than usual, before a cold front moves into our area tonight, dropping temperatures into the 50’s overnight.
- Gas prices surged higher on Monday. The average price statewide for regular unleaded is $3.27 per gallon - 13 cents higher than yesterday and six cents higher than a week ago. In Palm Beach County the average price is $3.44 per gallon, in Martin the average is $3.37 and in Indian River County the average is $3.30 per gallon.
