- It’s the final week of the 2024 state legislative session. While finalizing the state’s budget will be the top priority, a key legislative item to watch will be a proposed ban on social media access for children under 16. On Friday Governor DeSantis vetoed the version passed by the legislature that would have cut off access for all minors under 16. DeSantis is opposed to any version which doesn’t include parental choice for children under 16. A new version with parental choice is expected to be proposed and quickly taken up this week.
- Brightline is set to formalize the recent announcement of a new downtown Stuart location this morning, from Stuart with a presser scheduled for 10. Construction of the new station is expected to get underway next year with an ETA of 2027.
- The Cognizant Classic will conclude tournament action today following yesterday’s postponement of final round play due to severe weather. Austin Eckroat is the current leader at 15-under par.
- Following yesterday’s thunderstorms, we’ll have overcast and warm weather today with highs near 80, or about four degrees warmer than usual for this date.
- Gas prices dropped a bit over the weekend though prices are still higher than a week ago. The average price statewide for regular unleaded is currently $3.37 per gallon. In Palm Beach County the average price is $3.52 per gallon, in Martin the average is $3.39 and in Indian River County the average is $3.36 per gallon.
