- This year’s state legislative session is over with Friday having been the final day. Of the greater than 1900 bills proposed in the session, a total of 320 passed the state legislature. Governor DeSantis has signed eight bills into law (mostly updates to statues thus far) and has issued two vetoes. That means over 300 bills will be acted on by the governor in coming weeks. As the session came to a close DeSantis issued this statement: “We have delivered unprecedented victories for the people of Florida. I asked the Legislature to deliver as boldly as they did last session, and they have done so. Florida continues to show the nation how to lead on every issue.”
- The infectious period for the original measles outbreak in Broward has ended without any additional measles cases detected. Governor DeSantis stated: Once again, Florida has shown that good public health policy includes personal responsibility and parents’ rights. While the national medical health establishment and media have lost the public’s confidence, Florida continues to restore sanity and reason to public health, and will always do so under my leadership. Florida Surgeon General Dr. Ladapo said: It’s important that public health leaders consider all available data and make decisions that promote health while respecting the rights of individuals. Under the leadership of Governor DeSantis, I will always serve with integrity and prioritize a holistic approach to public health that tunes into the needs of Floridians – and tunes out the noise.
- Early voting for the March 19th Presidential Preference primary and municipal elections got underway this past weekend. In Palm Beach County early voting will continue through Sunday, the 17th. In Martin and Indian River Counties early voting runs through Saturday, the 16th. Cooler weather today with highs in the mid 70’s, or about a degree cooler than usual for this date.
- Gas prices dropped a bit over the weekend though prices are still higher than a week ago. The average price statewide for regular unleaded is currently $3.42 per gallon. In Palm Beach County the average price is $3.60 per gallon, in Martin the average is $3.50 and in Indian River County the average is $3.45 per gallon.
