- Today is the Presidential Preference Primary and Uniform Municipal Election Day in Florida. Registered Republicans can cast ballots for their presidential candidate of choice. Democrats aren’t holding a presidential primary election in Florida as the state party declined to allow ballot access for any challengers to President Biden. 23 municipalities are holding elections in Palm Beach County today. In Martin County Sewall’s Point is holding a special election. Polls are open from 7am to 7pm.
- Lt. Governor Jeanette Nunez has announced the 2024 Florida Space Art Contest. The competition is open to all K–5 grade students in Florida. Students will submit an original, two-dimensional artwork based on this year’s theme “Suit Up! Florida’s Space Suit of the Future”. Submissions will be broken down into two categories: K–2 and 3–5. Six art pieces from each group (12 total) will be selected as finalists. Finalists will win two tickets to the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex. Two grand prize winners, one selected from each group, will have their artwork launched into space on an upcoming mission.
- Amid expectations of a migrant surge from Haiti following the effective collapse of the country’s government, 23 illegal immigrants, purporting to be from Cuba, made landfall in Duck Key Monday night. State and local law enforcement agencies, in addition to the State Guard, have ramped up coastal patrols from Key West through the southeast Florida coastline. The illegal immigrants have been turned over to U.S. Border Patrol for processing.
- Morning showers are possible as cooler air continues to make its way into our area today. Today’s high is expected to be in the low 70’s which is slightly cooler than usual for this date. Overnight temperatures will dip into the 50’s tonight with highs remaining in the 70’s through Friday.
- Gas prices jumped six cents per gallon on Monday as we’re approaching new highs for the year. The average price statewide for regular unleaded is currently $3.52 per gallon. In Palm Beach County the average price is $3.69 per gallon, in Martin the average is $3.60 and in Indian River County the average is $3.55 per gallon.
