  • Governor DeSantis signed seven bills into law heading into the weekend. New laws include the Hot Car Death Prevention bill, which is a public awareness initiative about the risks of leaving children unattended in motor vehicles; the Motor Vehicle Parking on Private Property bill, which regulates private paid parking lots – including mandating clear signage for the costs; the Employment of Individuals with Disabilities bill, which aims to achieve better employment outcomes for those with disabilities and the Return of Weapons and Arms Following an Arrest bill, which streamlines the process under which confiscated weapons during an arrest are to be returned to an individual once eligible. 
  • Florida once again tops WalletHub’s annual “Best States to Retire” list. Florida currently ranks #1 for overall quality of life, #4 for affordability for retirees and 29th for overall health options and access. 
  • Today’s total solar eclipse will be partially visible for those on Florida’s east coast this afternoon between 1:48 and 4:15. The peak viewing opportunity for our area will be 3:03 when 49% of the eclipse will be visible. If you’re going to attempt to view the eclipse, you need solar viewing glasses to be able to do so. Regular sunglasses, including with polarized lenses are not safe to use to view the eclipse. 
  • It’ll be a warm and otherwise pleasant day today with highs in the upper 70’s, about two degrees cooler than usual for this date. Temperatures are expected to gradually rise through Thursday before a cool front moves in.  
  • Gas prices continued to trend a bit lower through the weekend. The average price statewide for regular unleaded is currently $3.46 per gallon. In Palm Beach County the average price is $3.69 per gallon, in Martin the average is $3.55 and in Indian River County the average is $3.48 per gallon.
