  • Lt. Governor Jeanette Nunez announced that registration is now open for the 2024 Python Challenge. The 10-day competition will take place August 9th-18th with over $25,000 in prize money on the line for participants. The competition is open for professional and non-professional python hunters. Last year’s challenge resulted in the elimination of 209 invasive Burmese pythons.  
  • A joint agency investigation which included the Palm Beach County and Indian River Sherriff’s Offices, the Boynton Beach, Lantana and Palm Beach Gardens Police Departments and the federal Drug Enforcement Administration has resulted in the arrests of six area drug traffickers dealing in fentanyl resulting in the deaths of multiple people. 
  • Palm Beach County Animal Care and Control is waving the adoption fee for the month of June amid an overcrowding of animals at its facility. Officials are pleading with residents to look to local shelters first when seeking pets. In addition to adoption programs for sheltered animals, it’s possible to provide a foster home to animals which also qualifies as community service.  
  • Hot and windy today, though not quite as hot as it’s been with a high near 90 which is about 5 degrees higher than usual for this date. Highs over the weekend will be in the mid-80's which is in line with seasonal norms after what will have been the hottest May in recorded history for Florida’s east coast. As we begin hurricane season tomorrow, we’ll do so with the National Hurricane Center not expecting any tropical formations over the next week.  
  • Gas prices dropped by two cents per gallon on Thursday. The average price statewide for regular unleaded is currently $3.48 per gallon. In Palm Beach County the average price is $3.68 per gallon, in Martin the average is $3.54 and in Indian River County the average is $3.45 per gallon.
