- Six auto insurance companies have been fined by state regulators and have been ordered to pay millions to policy holders across the state. The infractions range from non-compliance with state filing requirements to overcharging consumers for policies. The largest offender was Liberty Mutual which has been ordered to pay back $4.7 million to 46,053 policy holders. The other companies which will be refunding considerably smaller amounts include Peerless Indemnity, Gateway, Pie Casualty and Pie Insurance Company.
- The Florida High School Athletic Association has approved NIL compensation for student-athletes across the state. The policy will allow student-athletes to seek and accept business endorsements, promotional considerations and social media influencer deals. The policy prohibits students from profiting off of the use of a school’s uniform, logo or equipment.
- The Martin County School District is considering a policy that would mandate students to put cells phones in pouches that would be provided during the school day. A Cell Phone Storage plan was discussed at the district’s budget workshop Tuesday. The estimated cost of the program would be about $300,000 for the middle and high schools under consideration.
- Lake Worth Beach has completed all repairs and reopened a section of Florida Mango Road closed since the April sewer main break caused by an AT&T subcontractor. According to the city the total repair costs are up to $15 million. On Tuesday city officials approved a plan seeking a loan for the cost of the repairs while they seek repayment from AT&T.
- Sunny skies with highs in the upper 80’s today. Temps will be about 4 degrees higher than usual for this date. We should have similar but still hotter weather for the rest of the week. In the tropics... The National Hurricane Center is not expecting any tropical formations over the next week.
- Gas prices dropped by two cents per gallon continuing the recent trend of lower prices. The average price statewide for regular unleaded is currently $3.39 per gallon. In Palm Beach County the average price is $3.62 per gallon, in Martin the average is $3.45 and in Indian River County the average is $3.34 per gallon.
