- Governor DeSantis has vetoed the Food and Hemp Products bill. The proposed legislation would have further regulated hemp products including the banning of many hemp products currently sold in the state. Numerous business owners said they may have been forced to shut down their stores had the legislation been signed into law.
- Florida’s Toll Relief Program, which was recently renewed by the state legislature for a second year, saved SunPass users $42 million during its first month of operation, a rate that’s slightly higher than last year’s savings. Under the program SunPass customers with at least 35 monthly toll transactions automatically receive a 50% discount on tolls.
- Several Florida metros currently rank among the best in the country for home buyers, based upon the level of competition in the market for properties according to Zillow. Florida’s four largest metros, Miami, Tampa, Orlando and Jacksonville are all among the top 50 markets for buyers right now according to Zillow’s study with the Miami-Fort Lauderdale-West Palm Beach metro the most buyer friendly in the state.
- Vero Beach Officials voted to disqualify the developer they’d recently approved to develop the “Three Corners” project. The vote came in a special meeting following information that the developer had potentially violated the city’s tampering provision. The council voted to restart the Request for Proposal process.
- A mix of clouds and sun today with a chance for afternoon thunderstorms with highs in the low 90’s. Temps will be about 5 degrees higher than usual for this date. We’ll have a bit of a reprieve with cooler weather starting tomorrow... The National Hurricane Center is not expecting any tropical formations over the next week.
- Gas prices continued lower through the weekend reaching the lowest average price statewide in four months. The average price for regular unleaded in Florida is currently $3.28 per gallon. In Palm Beach County the average price is $3.52 per gallon, in Martin the average is $3.30 and in Indian River County the average is $3.24 per gallon.
