  • Governor DeSantis said on Monday that he’ll sign the budget increase passed by the state legislature for teacher pay into law. Overall compensation for teachers will rise by an additional $200 million statewide for the 2024-2025 school year. DeSantis highlighted that total teacher compensation will have risen by $1.25 billion annually since he became governor and that Florida’s average teacher compensation is the highest in the Southeast.  
  • Palm Beach County’s Environmental Resources Department began to survey the Lake Worth Lagoon identifying illegally floating structures for removal. The first step in the process is to issue a notice of violation providing owners of the structures with up to 21 days to remove them or they will be removed by the county.  
  • In a workshop aimed at addressing stormwater issues in Lantana on Monday, city officials were presented with a proposal by Chen Morre Associates to handle the town’s growing needs due to development. The project's cost would be $120,000, and the town is considering a special assessment for residents to pay for it.  
  • Rain is expected to begin this morning and continue on and off for most of the week. Expected rainfall totals are expected to range from a few inches in some areas to potentially as much as a foot in others. A Flood Watch is in place today for coastal communities and those prone to flooding until at least midnight tonight. Today’s high is in the mid-80's. In the tropics the news continues to be positive. The National Hurricane Center is not expecting any tropical formations over the next week.  
  • Gas prices were flat on Monday after reaching the lowest average price statewide in four months. The average price for regular unleaded in Florida is currently $3.28 per gallon. In Palm Beach County the average price is $3.51 per gallon, in Martin the average is $3.27 and in Indian River County the average is $3.22 per gallon.
