Florida’s Illegal Immigration Crisis, Biden’s Amnesty Plan & The Seminole’s Big Bet Pays Off
- Biden’s border crisis is emboldening transnational criminal organizations. Those were the words of Florida’s Attorney General Ashley Moody as she recently announced the creation of a new Human Trafficking Strike Team. The new multi-agency strike team was deemed to be necessary following the discovery of a string of human trafficking rings in Florida. Rings where victims were found to have unwittingly paid sex traffickers to help them cross our southern border. While the victims may have made it across the border they ended up as sex slaves in our state. It’s one of the many growing crimes in Florida, and across the country, due to Biden’s open border. As Moody said: Human trafficking is a challenge for every state. Because, under this president, we have absolutely no enforcement at the southwest border. People are … giving monies to transnational criminal organizations to bring them straight into this country; then they find themselves at the mercy of the same organization. We have our own government pushing as many people as they can into the interior. And as we’ve learned more of these people being pushed into the interior end up in Florida than any other state. On that note Moody also said: Biden’s border crisis is emboldening transnational criminal organizations, and as a result, we are seeing horrific human trafficking cases right here in Florida. Moody’s task force, just announced last week, is already working on over 20 human trafficking cases within our state. So, is the priority of the Biden administration to put an end to the lawlessness at the southern border? Is it to deport those who’ve entered this country illegally which would no doubt effectively deport many of the human trafficking rings? Nope.
- It’s amnesty for those who’re already here. Today President Biden’s planned announcement isn’t about securing the border and making our communities safer. It’s about rewarding those who’ve already entered the country illegally. Since Joe Biden became President of the United States 7.6+ million illegal immigrants have been processed at the border and pushed into the interior. An additional 1.9+ million illegal immigrants have evaded authorities while crossing the southern border. If illegal immigrants allowed into the United States were made into a state – they'd be the tenth largest state, one that would be more populous than New Jersey. So, what’s the king of illegal immigration set to do? Today President Biden is to set unveil his plan to provide amnesty to an estimated 1.1 million illegal immigrants through his Parole in Place scheme. Now, what effect would you expect that offering amnesty to 1.1 million illegal immigrants in this country might have with those already considering entering this country illegally? Biden’s border crisis is emboldening transnational criminal organizations and an endless stream of illegal immigrants pouring into this country generally.
- The Compact wins. It’s been three years' worth of twists and legal turns in state and federal courts but on Monday the United States Supreme Court made a decision that handed the ultimate winning hand to the Seminole Tribe (and those who’ve liked sports betting as it’s been since last November in the state of Florida). In the case challenging Florida’s Seminole Compact agreed to by the Seminole Tribe and Governor DeSantis in April of 2021, the United States Supreme Court decided not to hear the legal challenge brought by the pari-mutal backed collaboration identified as West Flager Associations. As part of a 6-page brief providing guidance as to cases the Court has agreed to hear and those it’s chosen to deny, it said this about the West Flagler case: The petition for a writ of certiorari is denied. Justice Kavanaugh would grant the petition for a writ of certiorari. Justice Jackson took no part in the consideration or decision of this petition. What that means is that the South Florida native, Justice Ketanji Brown-Jackson recused herself from consideration in hearing the case and of the remaining eight justices only one, Kavanaugh, was interested in hearing the case. The decision by the Supreme Court effectively ends the federal legal challenges to the Seminole Compact paving the way for Seminole exclusivity for the duration of the 30-year compact which runs to 2051. What that doesn’t mean is that services like DraftKings or FanDuel will be locked out of the state until then. What it does mean is that if they’re to participate in the state of Florida, they’ll have to do it by going through the Seminole Tribe (paying a piece of the action to them) first. This is something the Seminole Tribe has previously indicated they’d be open to doing. The question will become whether the terms offered by the Seminole Tribe will be something third parties would be interested in doing. So, the bottom line is that sports betting and expanded casino gaming will remain legal in Florida and the Seminole Tribe will control how it goes for the foreseeable future. The Seminole Tribe made the biggest bet in Florida’s history when they signed the Compact three years ago, and they’ve won it.
