  • 4 deaths in Florida are attributed to Hurricane Debby as it made landfall as a category 1 hurricane on Monday. Governor DeSantis said the deaths were attributed to two auto accidents, one in Dixie County and another in Hillsborough County and a tree that fell on a home in Levy County. Rain related to Debby’s slow slog through southern Georgia is expected across the state today. 
  • Florida’s Office of Insurance Regulation has approved over 400,000 additional property insurance policies currently held by Citizens Property Insurance, the state’s insurer of last resort, to private insurance companies in October. The decision will allow 10 different carriers to assume up to 413,808 policies from Citizens via the state’s depopulation program. Under the depopulation program, customers identified for depopulation are to be moved to private insurers if the option(s) provided offer premiums that are 20% higher than the Citizens premium rates or less.  
  • Six Florida attorneys have been disbarred for varying misconduct violations including three South Florida based attorneys: Coral Gables attorney Miguel Mirabel, Fort Lauderdale attorney John Jenkins and Palm Beach attorney Frank Noska. 
  • It’ll be cloudy with occasional showers today with highs in the low 90’s. Temperatures will be about 4 degrees warmer than usual for this date. Debby remains a weak tropical storm as it's nearing Savannah. The National Hurricane Center is tracking a disturbance in the Southern Atlantic near the Windward Islands that’s expected to track towards Mexico with a 30% chance of development. 
  • Gas prices dropped a penny on Monday. The average price for regular unleaded in Florida is currently $3.45 per gallon. In Palm Beach County the average price is $3.62 per gallon, in Martin the average is $3.51 and in Indian River County the average is $3.47 per gallon.
