  • The Florida Department of Education has finalized rules for schools to use incorporating the state’s new education law allowing for school chaplains to be used on campus. Under the guidance issued by the state schools may hire volunteer chaplains to provide support and counseling services to children with parental/guardian approval. The Palm Beach and Martin County School Districts have said they have no plans to make use of the chaplain program. The Indian River County School District is currently considering the implementation of the program. 
  • Johnathan Dickinson State Park is one of nine state parks across the state selected for an Amended Conceptual Land Use Plan as part of the State Department of Environmental Protection’s Great Outdoors Initiative. Under the state’s proposal, the park would have two 18-hole golf courses, one 9-hole course and a clubhouse built within the existing footprint. A meeting with public comments will be held next Tuesday, August 27th, at The Flagler of Stuart at 3 pm.  
  • The Boynton Beach Police Department has announced that a new red-light camera has been installed at the intersection of Boynton Beach Blvd. And Northwest 8th Street. Warnings will be issued for violations through September 3rd, with fines of $158 to be issued starting September 4th.  
  • It’ll be hot again today with afternoon thunderstorms possible and highs around 90. Temperatures will be about 4 degrees warmer than usual for this date. The National Hurricane Center isn’t expecting any new tropical systems to develop over the next seven days
  • Gas prices dropped a penny per gallon on Tuesday. The average price for regular unleaded in Florida is currently $3.36 per gallon. In Palm Beach County the average price is $3.53 per gallon, in Martin the average is $3.41 and in Indian River County the average is $3.38 per gallon.
