With one day to go before Election Day, we feature the race for an open Florida House seat.
Republican State Representative Rick Roth is termed out of his District 94 seat with plans to run for the state Senate in two years.
Two candidates are in the General Election for the House seat. They include former Palm Beach Gardens City Council member Rachelle Litt on the Democrat side. Her six years on the Council included two as vice mayor and one as mayor.
"Working together in a nonpartisan position, you learn how to do just that...to work together to benefit your constituents because that's what it's about. They're the people that elect you and they're the people that you serve."
Litt says she can work across the aisle in the Republican-led Legislature, but she also talks about wanting to "break the supermajority stranglehold in the State House."
One of her platforms is to protect public education while ensuring there is safety in schools and communities.
She faces Republican candidate Meg Weinberger, who won a primary to get to this point. She is the Palm Beach County Chair of the nonprofit "Moms for Liberty."
"When I say I'm going to do something I do it. My intentions are truly authentic. I am a patriot through and through. I believe that life, liberty, pursuit of happiness. These are just values I was raised with and I feel that I want my children, their children and your children, I want them all to have that opportunity. We live in the best country in the world and I'd like to keep it that way."
Among other priorities, Weinberger says she wants to improve educational outcomes.
