Florida News That Impacts You – November 4th, 2024

Bottom Line: Your daily recap of the biggest news from around the state that impacts you in South Florida.

  • A total of 7,833,099 Floridians, or 57% of Florida’s voters had voted via vote by mail ballots or through early voting with Republicans having outvoted Democrats by 874,323 voters as of Sunday. Turnout is about 64% in Palm Beach County, 67% in Martin and 62% in Indian River County.
  • Early voting has ended with Election Day voting set to take place tomorrow. Polls will be open from 7 am to 7 pm and voters will need to vote at their assigned precincts. It’s too late to mail vote by mail ballots. Anyone still in possession of a vote by mail ballot should drop it off directly at a Supervisor of Elections office or take it to their precinct location tomorrow.
  • South Ocean Blvd. In the vicinity of Mar-a-Lago will be closed until further notice effective at 8:06 this morning. The closure from South County Road to Southern Blvd. is consistent with the regular closures that have taken place since the first assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump in July and are being reimplemented due to heightened security measures being put in place by the Secret Service due to tomorrow’s presidential election.
  • It’ll be cloudy and windy again today with highs in the low to mid 80’s - about four degrees warmer than usual for this date. The National Hurricane Center is tracking three systems. Potential Tropical Cyclone Eighteen is expected to develop into a tropical storm later today and become a hurricane as it approaches western Cuba. It’s then expected to continue through the Gulf tracking towards Louisiana where gradual weakening back into a tropical storm is expected. Tropical Storm Patty continues to track eastward in the northern Atlantic and isn’t of concern. A disturbance near the Leeward Islands has a 20% chance of developing over the next seven days.
  • Gas prices dropped through the weekend reaching lows for the year in many places in the process. The average price for regular unleaded in Florida is currently $3.01 per gallon. In Palm Beach County the average price is $3.19 per gallon, in Martin the average is $2.99 and in Indian River County the average is $3.02 per gallon.
