  • A new study published by FAU researchers in The American Journal of Medicine entitled: New Clinical and Public Health Challenges: Increasing Trends in United States Alcohol Related Mortality shows alcohol related deaths more than doubling between 1999 to 2020. Deaths rose among all demographics studied with the largest increase coming with adults between the ages of 25 to 34 – where alcohol related deaths rose by nearly 400% over the prior two decades. The study also notes that women appear to be more vulnerable to the most severe effects of alcohol due to body composition and metabolism.  
  • Several new businesses are coming to CityPlace in West Palm Beach next year. Related Ross, the owner of CityPlace, has announced that a new hospital, apparel store Alo, restaurant Moxie’s, retailer Crate and Barrel, and fitness club Equinox, will all be coming to CityPlace. Construction for the new projects is scheduled to start in March.  
  • Vero Beach staple Kelley’s Irish Pub is set to close its doors this week after 34 years in business. Citing financial struggles, owner Donna Cronin told WPTV she’ll have to close the doors after an estimated loss of $300,000 since she purchased the restaurant in 2019. 
  • Partly cloudy skies with cooler temps today. We’ll have highs in the low 80’s - which is a little warmer than usual for this date. The National Hurricane Center‘s forecast is clear. There’s no expected activity for the next seven days as we head down the homestretch of hurricane season. 
  • Gas prices dropped two cents per gallon on Monday. The average price for regular unleaded in Florida is currently $3.10 per gallon. In Palm Beach County the average price is $3.26 per gallon, in Martin the average is $3.15 and in Indian River County the average is $3.11 per gallon.
