- FPL has proposed a four-year plan, that includes increases to base rates to continue its expansion within the state to meet the rising population. The letter filed with the Florida Public Service Commission on Monday, calls for approximately $2.6 billion in increases between 2026 and 2027 among existing FPL customers to fund the utilities’ buildout to meet an anticipated increase in demand within its footprint. A detailed plan will be submitted to the Commission on February 28th. Any increases would have to be approved by the Florida Public Service Commission.
- Amtrak has scrapped plans to expand service to Miami International Airport. On Monday, the National Railroad Passenger Corp. provided a letter stating the associated costs would be too great. The plan to expand Amtrak’s footprint to MIA had been in the works for 27 years and was originally supposed to be in service eight years ago.
- Police say a woman was attacked leaving Boca Town Center Sunday afternoon in an apparent theft attempt. At approximately 4:30 in the afternoon a woman was in the mall parking lot heading towards her car when she was pepper sprayed by an attacker who tried to steal her purchases. Following a struggle the attacker fled without the bag. Police described the suspect as a white woman between 30 to 50 years old with brown hair and average height. Any tips should be reported to the Boca Raton PD. Authorities are reminding shoppers to remain vigilant and to be aware of their surroundings in parking lots.
- Today will be sunny and warm with highs in the low 80’s - warmer than usual for this date. Cooler air will begin to make its way into our area overnight with highs in the mid 70’s the next few days.
- Gas prices dropped two cents per gallon on Monday. The average price for regular unleaded in Florida is currently $3.04 per gallon. In Palm Beach County the average price is $3.19 per gallon, in Martin the average is $3.05 and in Indian River County the average is $3.05 per gallon.
