Florida News That Impacts You – February 24th, 2025

  • Florida’s rate of flu spread remains ‘high’ according to the CDC’s weekly data. Over the past week the rate of spread of flu and flu-like activity has declined in 65 of Florida’s 67 counties...the two exceptions – Palm Beach County where there’s been no change over the past week and Martin County which is the lone county in the state with increasing cases most recently. RSV cases continue to decline across most of the state as well with cases decreasing in the Palm Beaches and Indian River County over the past week. Cases were unchanged in Martin, Broward and Miami Dade. 
  • The Coast Guard intercepted a boat with 23 people attempting to illegally enter the U.S. off Florida’s coast over the weekend, along with an alleged smuggler. The boat, which was launched from the Bahamas, contained Chinese, Ecuadorian and Colombian nationals.  
  • Saudi Arabia has announced that they’ll be opening an investment office in South Florida in the coming months. The office backed by the Saudi’s Public Investment Fund will be its second U.S. office and will be used to steer investments within the United States and act as a gateway to South American investments according to the government. The Saudi’s have pledged $600 billion in U.S. investments following conversations with the Trump administration. 
  • Cloudy skies this morning with steady rain entering the forecast by the afternoon extending through the night with highs in the low to mid 70’s – cooler than usual for this date. Similar weather is expected tomorrow with a total of up to 3 inches of rain expected today and tomorrow. 
  • Gas prices fell through the weekend though they’re a bit higher than a week ago. The average price for regular unleaded in Florida is currently $3.08 per gallon. In Palm Beach County the average price is $3.25 per gallon, in Martin the average is $3.11 and in Indian River County the average is $3.07 per gallon.
