Florida News That Impacts You – March 26th, 2025

  • On Tuesday Governor DeSantis announced over $389 million in grants would be issued across the state for 31 water quality and improvement projects, with at least $100 million coming to the Treasure Coast as part of the Indian River Lagoon Protection Program. On Wednesday additional details became known about how funds will impact planned local projects. Martin County is set to receive $12.5 million to aid in funding the conversation of septic tanks in New Monrovia and Port Salerno. The project is part of a ten-year conversation plan within the county. 
  • While Martin County’s first Costco location is just under a month away from opening, on April 25th, the location off Kanner Highway now has its gas station open, debuting with the lowest price in the county at $2.73 per gallon on Wednesday. The station is only available to Costco members. 
  • AccuWeather’s 2025 Hurricane Season forecast is out and is far less sensational than last year’s. AccuWeather infamously characterized last year’s season as one that would be “explosive” and perhaps record setting which it was not. This year’s forecast is characterized to be “Dynamic” with slightly above average activity predicted overall with 13 to 18 named storms, 7-10 expected hurricanes and 3-6 projected to make landfall.  
  • Sunny skies and warm today with highs near 80 which is typical for this date. We’ll have similar weather on Friday although with gusty winds moving in. 
  • Gas prices rose by another penny per gallon on Wednesday. The average price for regular unleaded in Florida is currently $3.15 per gallon - 19 cents higher than Monday. In Palm Beach County the average price is $3.30 per gallon, in Martin the average is $3.21 and in Indian River County the average is $3.19 per gallon.
