- The fastest growth in employment of college graduates this decade has occurred in Florida and Texas according to a new study by Jll Research. 18% of college graduates nationally have stayed or relocated to the two states since 2020, a 2% share shift equal to over 2 million jobs. Corporate relocations to Florida and Texas are cited as the top reasons for the shifting talent trends.
- In an effort to combat the state’s first bear hunt in a decade, the Sierra Club of Florida has had success in encouraging its members to “Bag a Tag, Save a Bear”. Under the club’s campaign, its members are encouraged to enter the lottery for a “tag” with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission entitling the holder to legally kill one bear during the hunt. The tags cost $100 for residents and $300 for non-residents. 187 tags are available. It remains to be seen what the final results are, however, reports of widespread participation have been announced. Today is the last day to seek a bear tag in advance of the scheduled December hunt.

- The National Hurricane Center is tracking three systems in the Atlantic. Hurricane Gabrielle is passing east of Bermuda and is set to head towards the northern-mid Atlantic. A disturbance in the southern Atlantic following a similar path to Gabrielle has a 60% chance of developing, while a disturbance just to the east of the Leeward Islands has a 30% chance of developing over the next seven days as it passes over the Leeward Islands, Puerto Rico and potentially parts of the Caribbean.
- Gas prices fell through the weekend though they remain higher than a week ago. The average price for regular unleaded in Florida is currently $3.10 per gallon. In Palm Beach County the average price is $3.24 per gallon, in Martin the average is $3.06, it’s $3.14 in St. Lucie, and in Indian River County the average is $3.12 per gallon.
