Arrest In Animal Cruelty Case Involving 11 Emaciated Horses

An arrest has been made in the seizure of eleven emaciated horses and a donkey from a property in Indiantown.

47-year old Lonise Thomas is charged with animal cruelty.  He owned the horses, which were found in poor condition.

In photos shared by the Martin County Sheriff's Office, you can see some of the animals so thin their bones are visible.

Thomas voluntarily surrendered them to authorities and they were taken to Equine Rescue and Adoption Foundation in Palm City.

Thomas reportedly told investigators that the drought took most of the grass and he did the best he could to take care of the horses, most of which he claimed had been dumped on him by other people.  He said he didn't have the money to hire a veterinarian.
