Fire fighters are now using drones to save lives:

Bottom Line: Across Florida many police departments, insurance companies and even FPL have added drones to their tool chest...fire departments could be next. On one hand, in the heat of the moment, taking time to fly a drone into an active scene may seem inefficient. On the other hand it could dramatically improve the response and safety for all involved.

One fire department already using them is the Fremont Fire Department in California. According to the chief they're able to access in under three minutes what would commonly take 10-15 minutes. Additionally, the more precise information can allow for safer responses into emergency situations. Based on that info it'd seem like a worthwhile initiative for firefighters generally. In Florida, Orange County has ordered drones for fire-rescue and should be rolling them out within the next couple of months. I'll be interested to see if their initiative will catch on with other agencies around our state.
