Hysterical Headlines for April 27th – Trump supporters – Dense as a box of Rocks?
Bottom Line: These are the daily doses of nonsense in the media and my hot takes on them...
Excerpt: As to your claim that I said Trump voters “should not be heard from,” while I know distortion and exaggeration are tools of your trade, I can’t allow them to stand unchallenged here. What I actually said is that I, personally, will not engage with Trump supporters. Reasoning with them is like reasoning with rocks.
And here’s the thing: You know this. You’re not an idiot, so you absolutely know what a dangerous outlier Trump is.
I am not unmindful of the troubling implications of writing off Trump supporters. When we can no longer talk to each other, what’s left? How can we be a country? But the point is, we’re already there. Indeed, given our prolonged and worsening state of estrangement, it would not surprise me if, within the next decade or two, the United States as we know it ceased to exist. Yes, I’m serious. I don’t predict it, and surely don’t desire it, but no, I would not be shocked.
History is watching us, Senator. It will not remember kindly those who failed to look beyond their own ambition and self interest in this fraught moment. Some of us are fighting for our country here.
Hot Take: Ok, so it takes a lot to shock me. I'm not sure that I'm exactly shocked that this kind of blatant bigotry is being expressed and perpetuated by Leonard Pitts and the Miami Herald but the degree to which it's being expressed is pretty close to shocking anyway. Let's get this straight for a moment. If you're a Trump supporter you're as dense as a rock. If you don't view Trump as dangerous you're an idiot. And once again this is the voice of tolerance and compassion speaking? Ironic doesn't even scratch the surface of the absurdity and lack of awareness here. And here's the best part. He's one of the most prominent and accomplished black writers in American history espousing this about the President and all who support him at a time in which, due to his policies, black and Hispanic unemployment are at all-time lows. That goes along with the best wage growth in 12 years, best economic growth in 13 years and biggest increase in net take home pay in 32 years. There are two sides to stories and one side to facts and you Mr. Pitts, have been weighed, measured and unfortunately have become little more than an angst-ridden bigot. It's bser's like you and the intolerance you spew that's leading to those unlikely allies like Kanye to finally speak up.
