Palm Beach County Sheriff Ric Bradshaw recently traveled to Tallahassee.
He says the Florida Department of Law Enforcement wanted to hear about how his agency's Behavioral Science Division, which pairs deputies with degrees in psychology and clinicians.
"He's very aware of the mental health component and trying to put something together on the state level so, you've got a good guy that's trying to do the right thing."
Bradshaw speaking about FDLE Commissioner Rick Swearingen, whom he says wants to put together a statewide program that's similar to how he handles calls when there is a potential risk.
The sheriff has also spoken to Congress about the division during a discussion about red flag laws.
