Great news – Coffee’s still good for you! But...

Bottom Line: There’s always a but isn’t there? The but in this case isn’t too bad though. For years we’ve had studies that’d shown us that (black) coffee is generally good for us. The antioxidants in the coffee help any number of different things that can ail us. For coffeeholic's like me that’s great news! And the largest coffee study to-date keeps that very much in play. A study published in The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition of more than 347,000 adults confirmed once again that the antioxidants in coffee are good for us and provided that we don’t load our coffee down with a bunch of bad stuff – we're drinking to our health (in addition to our sanity). The but is the tipping point. How much of a good thing becomes a bad thing? In the case of coffee, it’s six cups per day.

Based on the average adult, drink up to six and it’s a happy day for your health. Go beyond that number and the risk of rising blood pressure and additional stress on your cardiovascular system outweighs any potential benefits. Now, if you’re like me, a cup isn’t really cup. It’s considerably bigger. For the purpose of the study a cup is six ounces of coffee. That means we’re talking about being able to drink up to 36 ounces per day without entering unhappy territory. Not bad. Coffee’s still about the healthiest vice you can have as long you exercise some restraint.
